Juvéderm™/Restylane®
What are Dermal Fillers?
These are smooth injectable gels that are used to fill in and correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds that run from your nose to the sides of your mouth.
What causes Wrinkles to form?
As you age, your skin changes and reduces the production of a naturally hydrating substance called Hyaluronic acid. Over time the loss of this substance results in facial wrinkles and folds.
What are these fillers made of?
These injectable gels are made of Hyaluronic acid and are able to bring back the volume that has been lost and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds.
When will I see the results?
The results are seen immediately. It is a quick procedure preformed within a few minutes with instant gratification.
How long does it last?
JuvédermTM is the newest filler and lasts up to 1 year. Restylane® lasts 6-9 months.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects are temporary bruising and tenderness or swelling at the injection site. There is often no bruising and only minimal swelling.
Prior to treatment:
Patients who are using substances that prolong bleeding such as aspirin or ibuprofen may have increased bruising and should stop taking them 1 week prior to injection if possible. You can also take Arnica, an herbal supplement, twice a day for 3 days prior to treatment if desired.
Aftercare:
Ice may be applied to the area to reduce pain or swelling at injection sites. You should avoid extreme heat or cold until the initial swelling has resolved.
